Just to get the ball rolling.... I am a member of the Garw Valley Heritage Society and will hopefully be quite an active member on this forum. I have lived in the Garw Valley all my life - except for university years. I attended Ffaldau Primary and Ynysawdre Comprehensive, (Form One was at the Garw Grammar School site). I still live here now and even though I have a degree in archaeology, my main interest is in the cultural history of daily habits from the recent past. I guess you could say I have a particular interest in the everyday.

Hello I am a pontycymmer girl,from Oxford st.My dad was a safety man in the ffaldau colliery and my step brother was mechanic in Leighton Welshes and later in Blaengarw with Roy Morgan.I shall look forward to reading the posts about the valley I have some old photo,s and would like to know how to send a copy to you

Hello my grand parents Wilfred and Violet Bibey lived in Oxford Street Pontycymmer and were married at and attended the Salvation Army in Pontycymmer.
Grand father Wilfred dug his father out from mine collapse on his first day down the mine at either Ffaldau or Ogmore.I have many pictures and much family history to share but welcome information as to where I can find Pontycymmer school records or pit /work lists from the period 1905 to 1933 before they left for Exeter Devon - Thanks.A great site - well done to all involved.
