I have just found an obituary for my 1st Cousin 5 x removed, John Thomas. He was born in 1841 and died in 1917. The obituary states that he was 'one of the pioneers of the Baptist cause in the Garw Valley and was a Deacon at the Tylagwyn Chapel. I was wondering if there was a photograph of him in the church? He also regularly attended Baptist Union meetings. Would there be any minutes of these meetings. Many thanks, Danny

Hello, it appears that your John Thomas was my great grandfather first cousin. Tylagwyn first opened in 1831 as Cwmgarw and was re-named after being enlarged in 1881. My family were farmers who held services in their homes before the chapel was built. I don’t know of any photos in which he is specifically named. Someone somewhere probably has a photo perhaps without really knowing it’s him. Sorry can’t be of more help at present. Good luck Colin
