I am trying to gather stories, anecdotes about the many films, plays and documentaries that have been made in the Garw, making a list, I found no less than 10 of these. I have listed them below in possible date order I would welcome any corrections and additions from you.
Blue Scar: (1947) Film. We, in the Garw have a tenuous claim to this, because parts of it were filmed at the top of the mountain between here and Blaengwynfi. Local people can be seen in a football match scene?
Omri's Burning: (1969) T.V.Drama. Filmed behind the Halfway Club with Danter's shows as the 'set'. Actors; Ian Holm, Diana Coupland. The club was taken over as dressing rooms and toilets, local kids were not allowed near the shows during filming and there were no free rides either.
Carrie's War: (1974) BBC Serial. From the book by Nina Bawden. WW2 evacuee children learn to cope in a small Welsh village. Filmed in Blaengarw's Bethania Chapel, Bridgend Rd. Most of the episodes can still be found on YouTube.
Fallen Hero: 1978: T.V.Serial. Rugby League player returns home for a family funeral. Actors; Del Henny, Wanda Ventham, Prunella Gee. filmed in Pontycymmer and all over the valley.
Ready Brek: (1984?) T.V. Commercial. Filmed at Ffaldau School, and Greenhill. Available to view on Youtube.
Last Days at Fforchwen: (1995) BBC Documentary. The life of a local hill farmer.
Very Annie Mary: (2001) Feature film. Filmed principally in Pantygog, and all over the Garw. Actors; Rachel Griffiths, Kenneth Griffiths, Jonathan Pryce and many local people.
Framed: (2009) T.V film. Filmed mainly in Blaengarw at Parc Calon Lan. Actor; Trevor Eve.
Royal Wedding: ( ? ) T.V. film. Filmed in Marian St, Blaengarw. Actors; Sarah Hadland, Jacob Anderson.
Bridgend: (2013) Dutch film. Filmed in Oxford St, St Davids Church and the Vicarage. Storyline; About the recent spate of 'local' suicides in the Bridgend area.
Can you add to this list? Did you take part in any of these productions? Do you have a story to tell? Let us know about your 15 minutes of fame.
