Can any one help with further information about this? The gravestone was put up by Evan and Ann Jones; of Waun Bant. to comemmorate the deaths of their children. John aged 8 months died 1895. Margaret aged 7 months died 1896. Walter aged 4 months died 1897. Oliver aged 7 months died 1898. The census shows us that Ann Evans had 11 children up until 1911 but only 4 survived?
Evan Jones. Was born in Llanidloes in 1863. He was probably an 'economic migrant' of the times. A mason who went on to become a Building contractor in 1911 at Abercarn, Newbridge. Monmouthshire.
Ann(nee Owens)Jones. Was born in Penydarren, Glamorgan. in 1862. Her mother, Ann Owens. Born 1831. Lived in Waun Bant in 1891.
Surviving children were; Sarah Ann 1890.Born Treharris. Arthur (Thomas?)1899. Born Newbridge. Oliver 1901. Born Newbridge. Harold 1902.Born Newbridge.
Can anyone find out anything else about this family? What did the children die of? Did Ann Evans have any more children after 1911? Are their any ancestors still out there?

There was an outbreak of Scarlet Fever in Blaengarw during 1888, which proved fateful for two uncles of mine, one aged 2 years old and the other 4 years old. The possibility exists that this would have spread throughout the community as a whole and may well have been the cause of death of some of the Jones family. Unfortunately it will cost £10 to obtain a single death certificate to find the cause of death. This is one of the most expensive family history costs.

Thank you Colin, this is not a proper enquiry just a curiosity that intrigued me and several others. It is interesting to know about the 1818 scarlet fever outbreak. The Evan's family were living right by the Ffaldau Coke & Gas plant at the time of the deaths? I wonder if that had something to do with the fatalities as well? Gerald
