We have had a request from the local M.P. Huw Irranca Davies. To try and find anyone who served/worked in the Bridgend "Arsenal" during the last War from our area. Does anyone know a person or relative who might be prepared to attend the Cenotaph ceremony in London next year as a representative of this unsung group of war workers. There are a few places left, and a chance to be part of this great occasion. We will be glad to pass on any details to the M.P.s office. Also if you have any stories about working in the 'arsenal' for our website and newsletter that would be great.

My Grandmother worked in the Arsenal in Bridgend. She was Sarah Catherine Rees, nee Garfield. Much better known as Sally Garfield. Apart from her working there, I have no real stories of worth to record.

Thanks for the reply anyway Ffaldau boy.
Yours was the only reply I had on this subject, yet dozens of bus's and trains left the Garw every day full of munition workers for the arsenal during WW2 and afterwards. Regards

Hi, I can see that these posts are quite old but I have just found this page and hope it is still monitored. My Grandparents met at the Bridgend Arsenal and I have recently started researching life working in the Arsenal during WW2, the aim being to write a book based on my Gramma's life. Unfortunately she passed away in 2002 so any pointers would be great.

Hello Pinkladylorna, Yes the pages are monitored weekly (sometimes daily) by me. A very good book about the 'arsenal' was written within the last 4/5 years, it dealt with the facts and figures and not so much with the personal stories. I have forgotten the title, and cannot find my copy for the moment, it was written by a retired head teacher of Ynysawdre. I will try and find out more for you, your idea for a story about it sounds brilliant, perhaps we could put it on our website.

Hi, there is a book called 'The Welsh Arsenal' by M J Clubb written in 2007. Is that the one? I've also got a book called 'Bomb Girls' which details several personal stories. I'm only in the very early stages of my book - just the first chapter in draft so far I'm afraid, but loving writing it. Thank you for your reply.
