Hello everyone. I have just got back from Betws Life Centre, setting up the free WW1 exhibition which is set to run there for the next 2 days* 10:30 till 4:30. *It was supposed to run on Saturday, but due to staffing problems this is cancelled.
I hope some of you will be able to pop in and perhaps introduce yourselves, and take a look at what we have achieved. If you cant make this exhibition not to worry, we are at various venues throughout the Garw Valley right up until the end of the year, venues and Times are listed on the main website. These exhibitions will hopefully run for the next 4 years as we commemorate the Centenary of the First World War.

Yesterday was day 1 of our exhibition, we had the pupils of Bettws Shcool in to view and examine the exhibits. what a well behave bunch they were. A gentlemen came in and showed us his Sword bayonet souvenir of WW1. And Mr Ivor Brain's two sons came by and 'lent' us their late fathers medals one of which was a French Legion D' Honour, which we have now put on display. More of the same today as it is the last day for this exhibition.

We had the last day of our Bettws WW1 exhibition at Bettws Life centre yesterday. We were quite busy, but the highlight of the day was a surprise visit from Huw Irancca-Davies, his visit coincided with a another party of children from Bettws school. He stayed for about a hour and played with the children and examined the exhibits. He was particularly moved by the new Roll of Honour and wished us well in all the other exhibitions planned and offered his support to increase our profile. Next full exhibition is at Bryngarw Education suite, Bryngarw Park. 24th to 26th May. Please come along if you can.

We have just ended the Braichycymmer Exhibition. It has been a very interesting 3 days a little complicated by the varied opening times. But on the whole a success with many local people coming in and offering stories and or photographs. Because we were so close to the Cycle path we had a fair few visitors from out of the valley as well. Although it is very tiring we all felt it was worthwhile in the end. The next 'full' exhibition will be at the Leisure Centre,Pontycymmer. from Wed 9th July until Fri 11th July. (Opening times are expected to be 10:30 until 4:30.) This is going to be the smallest exhibition venue of the Garw 'tour' because we only have a back room to display in? But we will do our best to showcase the stories about the Pontycymmer area during WW1. The usual request goes out to our followers and friends, if you have any artefacts or stories you want to share with us then please get in touch. More news on this later, See you there?

This week we at the G.V.H.S. gave an interview to the Glamorgan Gazette about our work compiling the updated WW1 Roll of Honour. This interview has been published in full in this weeks Gazette on Page 3. The R.o.H is on display at every exhibition, and we are hoping that some official organisation will accept it at the end of this Centenary period to give it permanent home. We are exhibiting as guests of Porthcawl's War celebrations at the Y.M.C.A. in John St on Saturday, come and see us.

Jusr wanted to say well done for all your hard work on both the exhibition itself and also for the thorough research you both carried out to ensure all the names that should have been included have now been. The Garw is lucky to have such a hard working group of people gathering and protecting our history.

Just keeping everybody up to date. Today was spent at the Porthcawl town heritage bash, We were at the Y.M.C.A. at 8:30 am to set up. Every thing was laid out in readiness, and we took along the R.o.H. and another screen with Garw information on it. We were right by the door so we had two bites at prospective customers., In and Out! Three of us attended and we were later joined by a fourth, so that meant we could go outside to see the fun going on in the street.Well, the place was full of suffragettes, and WW1 re-enactor's, most of the shops were showing a display about the World War, or pictures of the actual shops at that time. Boy, have the prices gone up! We had lots of enquiry's, and people were most kind after reading the Gazette article this week congratulating us on the work so far. We also managed to 'find' another poor Garw soldier who is not on the list, so its back to research to confirm.
