George was my great grandfather, he was an only child who was born in Somerset, moved to Aberkenfig with his Mum and Dad as a teenager, married a Somerset girl (Elizabeth Pool) and had a large family most of whom were born in Oxford Street, Pontycymer, family history is my hobby and I like to try to expand my family tree to include the many descendants of my ancestors, I have been able to track most of the descendants of George but many are still missing.
The Feiven name as spelled seems to be unique to the descendants of George so if anyone can help in my search please contact me.

I went to school with a girl called Trudy Feiven. They lived in Pant Street, right at the top, in Pantygog. Her father was a driving instructor, I am pretty sure he was called Terry. I should think he has retired by now though. I can ask if anyone knows anymore at our next meeting, if you'd like

Thanks Bebs, I would appreciate any info. on anyone who has the Feiven name. I have a fair bit of info. on George and his children but as the generations expand it becomes more difficult to trace everyone. It justs fascinated me how so many people would not exist if not for one person, I'd really love to know how many of us owe our existance to this one man. Thanks for your reply

I mentioned your request at our meeting recently, and one of our members said that a Will Feiven used to be the Film Projectionist at the Memorial Hall Cinema years ago. I know it does not actually help with your search but I thought you might like to know?.

Gerald - Thanks for the interest, I think I remember Will and a cousin reminded me of his job at the Mem. There may be descendants of George who wont recognise the name as they haven't delved into their family history, his first daughter Sarah Jane married Evan Davies in 1897, as can be imagined tracking that name forward is not easy . Tho' I do know there are people today with the Feiven surname that I can't place in my Tree - all very frustrating ;D Thanks again for your input.

Hi my father and I were just looking through Garw Valley heritage blaengarw at photos and noticed your request. My father believes you share the same great grandfather George Feiven. My Father is Ronald Wilfred Davies his father was Evan Davies (Junior) his father was Evan Davies married to Sarah Jane Feiven. Hope this helps with your research

Hi - Betty Feiven was my mother in law. She passed away in 2008 and was married to Emrys Jenkins. They lived in Thornton Crescent Pantygog all her married life. My wife is Myrna Valerie and she has a brother Derrick who still lives in the Garw.
Betty had many brothers and sisters who are now unfortunately all passed away - Fred, Bert, Will, Bobby, Vernon, Cyril and sister Lil and Kathlene. Fred, Will, Cyril and Lil all married young and there are several members of the familly still alive. The others married late and had no children whilst Kathlene remained a spinster. There are still relatives in the valley with the surname Feiven - Terry and Alan (cousins) both live in Pantygog whilst David *Terry's brother lives in Blaengarw). David's son Carl lives in Aberkenfig and has two children.
There were relatives by the name of Feiven living in Somerton, Somerset and another cousin Alan lives in Hampshire (alan.feiven@ntlworld.com). Quite possibly Alan in Hampshire will be your best bet for help as he is now the "senior" member of the vamily.
Hope I have shed some light on your quest

Hi - first of all apologies for few spelling errors in previous posting
Lilly married Jimmy Harris and there are six children - Brian, Sheila, Miriam, Phillip, Jennifer and Gwyn (all still alive) (there is a teanage photo of Brian on this site)(Sheila and Jennifer are both spinsters whilst the other children are all married with their own families).
Fred married Edith and there are two daughters - Connie and Jeanette (Jeanette still lives in the Garw). Both daughters are married with their own families.
Bert remained a bachelor.
Will married and had two sons - Terry and David who are both still living in the Garw, Terry is still married and has two daughters who are also married with their own families. David is divorced and has two sons one of which is living in Aberkenfig with his wife and children.
Bobby and Vernon both married late in life and had no children
Cyril had a daughter and a son. the son Alan is married and is still living in Pantygog. The daughter is now a widow and living in the Swansea area.
Kathlene remained a spinster
My M.I.L. Betty had four children, however two died at childbirth. I am married to her daughter and we have two children. My brother in law is married and is living in Blaengarw and has three children.
I cannot at present throw much light on the Somerton side of the family but I al sure Alan will be able to help you there.
The Feivens are related to the Beiby family in the Garw and the Lidens in Aberkenfig but I do not know anything about them - the valley was a very close knit community.
I am not a valley boy but a townie from Port Talbot and infiltrated into the valley for my sins.

I am the granddaughter of Fred Feiven and daughter of Constance (Connie) Feiven. I remember my grandfather telling me that he believed that he had two brothers from his father's first marriage that he never met. He felt that one of them was called George but believed that they went to London after his father's first wife passed away. My grandfather, Fred, also had a father called Fred who was a cobbler in Pontycymer.

Further to my recent post about my grandfather, Fred. His family came from Huish Episcopi in Somerset to settle in the valley.

Hi Dawn, I've looked at the family tree and yours goes back like this - Constance daughter of Fred Feiven 1914 - 1997 Fred (1914) son of Fred Feiven 1882 - 1963 Fred (1882) son of George Henry Feiven
George Henry Feiven was born 1857 in Pitney Wood, Somerset to James and Jane, census records show him living in Somerton until his move to Wales where in 1881 he is married and living in Mount Pleasant, Aberkenfig.
James Feiven c.1828 -1887 was baptised in Somerton, there are earlier records which are in the parish of Huish Episcopi for his ancestors.
Fred (1882) had a suriving son from his 1st marriage - Thomas George Feiven 1904 - 1970 who married and had children, he died in the London area.
There is also a birth and death of a child - Frances Elizabeth Feiven 1906-1906, I have been unable to link her to parents but she is possible also a child of the first marriage of Fred (1882)
If you would like to see my family tree please let me know - I would be happy to share.
