Hi, Like so many I have been researching my family history which has led me to finding out about life in the Garw valley and the mining community. My great grandfather Trevor Jones was born in Llangeinor and later lived in Pontycymmer. He was a colliery haulier and his dad was also a miner and his brothers. I was able to find an amazing photo of Trevor as a baby with his dad William and mum Anne, his sisters Myfanwy and Elizabeth and his brothers evan and David. The photo was taken in about 1901-2. I will share it with you all. At the time the family were living in 25 High st, Llangeinor.
Some questions I have are how would I find out which mines they worked at? Also William had died by the time Trevor married in 1926 so would I be able to find out how he died, if it was mining related? I would also like to find out more about mining in the Garw valley, are there any events on or places I can go e.g museums? I live in Carmarthen so not too far away.
Trevor Jones was living in 3 lower adare st in pontycymmer in 1926 so if anyone has any more info on the family I would love to hear from you. It's all very exciting as I never knew growing up that I had Welsh ancestry. Despite my surname and being born in Wales both my parents were born in England and my dad was unaware he was Welsh!
Hope you like the photo and thank you for reading! Diolch
